Swim with Dolphins
Swimming with wild pods of dolphins is an experience of a lifetime – and one that’s on offer here in Mount Maunganui. There are two main tour operators who can take you out searching for dolphins (and penguins, large sea-birds etc) whether for a few hours or a full day.
White Island
White Island is the open core of a volcanic chain, called The Ring Of Fire, that runs through the centre of New Zealand. This majestic mountain in the sea is also our country’s only active marine volcano.
Take a tour over the volcano, hearing its rich and dramatic history. You’ll see the site where an eruption and avalanche killed an entire community of miners. You’ll also see surreal yellow sulphur pools, many small crater ‘lakes’, bubbling mud and bizarre rock and lava formations.
Indoor Rock-climbing
Try indoor rock-climbing at The Rock House - fun for all ages and abilities. It’s a fun physical challenge in a safe environment.
There are man-made climbing, bouldering and rock climbing features. All your equipment and lessons are part of the price.
Longridge Fun Park
Head off to Longridge Fun Park for a great fun-filled day out. Longridge Fun Park is in Te Puke (just 20 minutes from Cosy Corner Holiday Park) a small town to the south of Mount Maunganui.
Longridge Park is most well-known for its intensely thrilling jet-boat trips. High-speed runs take you 25kms down the mighty Kaituna River and the 360-degree jet spins are breath-taking.
You can also test your skill behind the wheel of one of Longridge Park’s 4WD cars. Hill Hopper’s U-Drive takes you through 12 juicy challenges on 3 kilometres of wild terrain.
The kids will love the Mini Farm, where they can hand feed friendly animals. There’s also a lovely café at Longridge Fun Park that serves a range of home baking and great coffee.
BloKarting
Fast becoming a popular sport here in Mount Maunganui, Blokarting is land-based sailing, on a unique BloKart – whizzing at high speed either down the miles of beach or around the Blokart track at Papamoa. Buckle in and give it a go – it’s a real buzz!
