Whakapapa holiday park is the highest fully serviced campground in New Zealand, this makes it the perfect location for those who love the outdoors year round.

Situated in Whakapapa Village in the heart of the Tongariro National Park(a Dual Listed World Herritage site). This means that not only is the park world class in terms of its scenary and unique natural features, but also has spiritual importance to the Tangata Whenua (or People of the Land). Whakapapa (pronounced fuka-pa-pa) literally means, ancestry, geneology or connection to the land.

Whakapapa village, with its Department of Conservation Visitor Centre, range of bars and restaurants is the perfect place to explore the wonders of the Tongariro National Park. In summer it’s the ideal base for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, New Zealands best one day Hike, or the Tongariro Northern Circuit, one of the 'DOC Great Walks', or the more remote Around the mountain (Mt.Ruapehu) track. For the less adventurous or those with limited time there are plenty of shorter tracks from five minutes to five hours that leave from the village and holiday park. There are plenty of other adventures in the area, including Rafting or kayaking the Whakapapa River or the Tongariro River, Mountain biking Fishers track or the Tongariro 42 traverse, or Rock climbing on Meads Wall (as featured on Lord of the Rings). Whakapapa is also the idea base for the Whanganui Journey, a multi day canoe trip through stunning lowland forest along the historic Whanganui River.

In winter, hit the slopes at the Whakapapa Ski Area just 6km up the Bruce Road, have you ever skied an active volcanoe looking across to Mt. Ngarauhoe (Mount Doom). For the experienced and well-equipped take up the challenge of an alpine traverse or summit one of the Volcanoes.
